The Guide is designed to lead you on a reflective journey through the design, construction, and implementation of your course. It goes about this process by encouraging you to address some important questions that learners will have about your expectations, your assumptions, your pedagogy, your reasons for doing what you do as the teacher of this course, and the nitty, gritty details of how you will teach it.

The process presumes that the course syllabus has at least two functions. It is first an invitational document, written to and for students to inform them about the course, welcome them to it, and let them know what it will be like. It is also a working guide, a dynamic reference tool that should be useful throughout the semester, and an important resource for successful student engagement with and progress through the course.
